Traditional Performing Arts and Modern Resonance
Translation
Traditional performing arts should not be displayed in museums as relics of the past. It is a dynamic process where physical techniques and rhythms inherited over generations are constantly infused with new life by colliding or merging with the sensibilities of modern people. The way performers on the stages of Noh and Kabuki seek expressions that resonate with contemporary audiences while maintaining classical forms shows a will to 'update' rather than 'preserve' tradition. True cultural inheritance is not about tracing hollowed-out styles. Rather, it is the attempt to translate the underlying aesthetics and philosophy into a modern context and create new value that serves as the key to connecting tradition to the future. Engaging with traditional performing arts is nothing less than the work of rediscovering ourselves through the lens of the past.
