Redefining Urban Life and Loneliness
Translation
In modern urban life, we are constantly required to connect with others. Notification sounds from social media ring incessantly, creating the illusion that we are connected to someone beyond physical distance. However, isn't this excessive connectivity ironically deepening our inner loneliness? Loneliness was once closely tied to physical isolation. But modern loneliness stands out precisely in crowds. While swaying on a packed train and rubbing shoulders with countless others, we close ourselves off in our own shells without speaking to anyone. This phenomenon can be said to be the result of the adaptation that the massive apparatus of the city forces upon the individual's psyche. We need to redefine loneliness not as a mere lack, but as an essential time for self-dialogue. To move away from the noise and deliberately choose silence—that is a modest form of resistance for regaining the spiritual autonomy that modern people are losing.
