The Abyss of Nature and Human Confrontation

Translation

In the process of modernization, we have come to view nature as an 'object to be overcome.' The acts of carving mountains, damming rivers, and expanding cities are based on the arrogant illusion that humans are independent from the massive system that is nature. However, once a massive typhoon or earthquake strikes, the fragility of civilization is exposed, and we are pulled back into our powerless state before the overwhelming power of nature. Is true coexistence not about finding the limits of the self within nature, rather than controlling it? When we place ourselves in the silence of the forest, time flows there in a way that cannot be measured by human scales. Touching that abyss means acknowledging the smallness of the self, and at the same time, it should serve as a starting point for living humbly as a part of the chain of life.
