How to remember it

Renyoukei + な form of 小さい; only ever modifies a noun.

Example sentences

• 小さな猫が庭にいます。

  ちいさなねこがにわにいます。

  There is a small cat in the garden.

• 彼は小さな声で話した。

  かれはちいさなこえではなした。

  He spoke in a small voice.

Usage

Pre-noun form only; cannot end a sentence like 小さい can.
