“Fu-mu” — your foot meets the floor, pressing down firmly.

• 猫のしっぽを踏んでしまった。

  ねこのしっぽをふんでしまった。

  I accidentally stepped on the cat's tail.

• この橋を渡ると、床が揺れて足元がしっかり踏めない。

  このはしをわたると、ゆかがゆれてあしもとがしっかりふめない。

  When you cross this bridge, the floor shakes and you can't plant your feet firmly.

Usage

Transitive verb; the thing stepped on takes the particle を.
