How to remember it

A bell “becomes” a sound on its own — intransitive like なる (to become).

Example sentences

• ベルが鳴ったら、教室に入ってください。

  べるがなったら、きょうしつにはいってください。

  When the bell rings, please enter the classroom.

• 雷が大きく鳴って、子供は泣き出した。

  かみなりがおおきくなって、こどもはなきだした。

  The thunder crashed loudly, and the child started crying.

Usage

Intransitive; the subject itself produces the sound.
