How to remember it

冷 (cold) + 房 (room) = making a room cold; the cooling function of AC.

Example sentences

• 冷房が効いていて部屋が涼しい。

  れいぼうがきいていてへやがすずしい。

  The air conditioning works well and the room is cool.

• 暑いので、冷房をつけてください。

  あついので、れいぼうをつけてください。

  It's hot, so please turn on the air conditioning.

Usage

Means cooling only; 暖房 is heating; エアコン is the appliance itself.
