次第

次 (next) + 第 (order) — the order in which things unfold.

Example sentences

• 天候次第でピクニックに行きます。

  てんこうしだいでピクニックにいきます。

  We'll go on the picnic depending on the weather.

• 準備ができ次第、出発しましょう。

  じゅんびができしだい、しゅっぱつしましょう。

  Let's leave as soon as we're ready.

Usage

As a suffix, V-stem + 次第 means "as soon as"; noun + 次第 means "depending on."
