How to remember it

To "hand over" (払) money "in support" (支) of what you owe.

Example sentences

• 私は電気代を支払いました。

  わたしはでんきだいをしはらいました。

  I paid the electricity bill.

• 会計は後で支払ってください。

  かいけいはあとでしはらってください。

  Please pay the bill later.

Usage

Godan verb ending in う; takes を for the amount and に for the recipient.
