都 (all) + 合 (fit) = how all things fit together; your situation or schedule.

Example sentences

• あいにく都合が悪くて、出席できません。

  あいにくつごうがわるくて、しゅっせきできません。

  Unfortunately my schedule doesn't allow it, so I can't attend.

• ご都合のよい日を教えてください。

  ごつごうのよいひをおしえてください。

  Please let me know a day that is convenient for you.

Usage

Common in 都合がいい/悪い (convenient/inconvenient); polite form is ご都合.
