伝 (transmit/hand down) + える — passing a message or tradition along the chain.

Example sentences

• そのことを彼に伝えてください。

  そのことをかれにつたえてください。

  Please tell him about that.

• ニュースで事故を伝えました。

  にゅーすでじこをつたえました。

  The accident was reported on the news.

Usage

Transitive ichidan verb; the message/news takes を, as in ～を伝える.
