How to remember it

The 動 (motion) kanji shows force (力) stirring heavy clouds (重) into action.

Example sentences

• 子供が元気に動き回っている。

  こどもがげんきにうごきまわっている。

  The child is moving around energetically.

• この機械は動かない。

  このきかいはうごかない。

  This machine won't move.

Usage

Intransitive; its transitive counterpart ("to move something") is 動かす.
