Humble (謙譲) form of 聞く/訪ねる—used when asking or visiting someone respected.

Example sentences

• お名前をうかがってもいいですか。

  おなまえをうかがってもいいですか。

  May I ask your name?

• 明日、先生のお宅にうかがいます。

  あした、せんせいのおたくにうかがいます。

  Tomorrow I will visit the teacher's house.

Usage

Humble speech (謙譲語); use toward superiors, not your own in-group.
