From 割る (to divide) — a "division" gives you the ratio or proportion.

Example sentences

• 合格の割合は去年より高い。

  ごうかくのわりあいはことしよりたかい。

  The pass rate is higher than last year.

• 男女の割合はほぼ同じだ。

  だんじょのわりあいはほぼおなじだ。

  The ratio of men to women is about the same.

Usage

Adverbial 割合に means "comparatively, rather" (e.g. 割合に早い).
